Red & Yellow’s BCom Marketing degree, in association with Unilever, was born from an awareness that everything we know is changing at a rapid rate—and that exciting opportunities await in a world where humans and careers are more varied than ever.

This degree combines core disciplines of marketing and commerce with critical specialist subject areas and cutting-edge expertise, making it highly relevant to the evolving business landscape.

Beyond traditional technical and theoretical knowledge, this degree incorporates practical implementation with real brands and develops essential human skills like empathy and creative thinking, which are crucial for future career success. It offers industry-relevant, practical training underpinned by best practices.

Preparing Industry-Ready Graduates with Practical Experience

For 30 years, Red & Yellow has produced industry-ready graduates through our unique blend of Creative Magic and Commercial Logic. This success is possible because of our broad industry network and practical programme syllabus, where our students work directly with brands on creative campaigns.

The BCom Marketing degree includes a compulsory 6-week workplace learning component, providing students with real business exposure, invaluable “internship” experience, and networking opportunities.

Real-World Challenges and Opportunities for BCom Marketing Students

Students get the chance to participate in a number of international business competitions.
The L’Oréal Brandstorm, an international competition for students, dedicated to helping them kickstart their careers. This competition offers the opportunity to tackle a real business case, gain new skills, interact with industry experts, and have an unforgettable experience.

This year, Red & Yellow co-hosted the L’Oréal Brandstorm national finals on campus, with one of our teams securing third place. Students had the opportunity to network with leaders at L’Oréal South Africa and build their professional presentation skills.

Additionally, students will engage with the Innovation Hub, a final-year integrated project where theory meets real-world application. This project allows BCom Marketing students to apply their creative theory and problem-solving skills to real marketing challenges presented by businesses.

Businesses present a brief aimed at solving a specific marketing challenge. This task is part of the students’ module grades in Marketing Research, Services Marketing, Project Management, and Business Management. This project is an opportunity for a business to present a marketing challenge to our students, who form teams to understand, analyse, and solve it.

Career Opportunities Through Networking

Networking is one of the most powerful tools for job seekers. Through our industry partnerships, events, brand challenges, practical work-based syllabi, and more, we equip our students with networking skills and set them up for success from day one.

In today’s dynamic job market, finding the ideal role can seem like searching for a needle in a haystack. Networking goes beyond socialising; it is a strategic exercise in cultivating and building relationships that can unlock career opportunities. The conversations sparked through networking can reveal insights into company cultures, role expectations, and unadvertised job openings, which might not surface through conventional job-searching methods.

Harvard-Bound: Winning the Honoris United Universities Impact Challenge

Our BCom Marketing students won the Honoris United Universities Impact Challenge, earning a trip to Harvard University in 2024.

Students across Africa were challenged to choose a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) and come up with a practical solution to achieve it in the African context.

Our four BCom Marketing students chose SDG 4: Quality Education and formed the group Learning for Everyone. Their mission to empower minds and embrace differences led them to create an accessible online platform for low-end communities, to help identify and tackle learning disabilities like dyslexia.

Opportunities like these are made possible through our partnership with Honoris United Universities and our extensive partnership network, giving our students a competitive edge in launching their careers.

Industry-Ready Graduates: High Employment Rates and Strong Connections

Thanks to our longstanding and close ties to the industry, as well as our excellent relationships with leading local agencies and brands, many of our students are recruited even before the end of their final year of study, and more than 85% are gainfully employed after graduating. With Red & Yellow’s qualifications being highly sought after in the marketing world and among recruiters alike, businesses big and small contact us almost daily looking to hire our alumni and graduates.
